Phase I 2016-2020

The EU4Energy Governance Project was a technical assistance project managed by the Energy Community Secretariat between 2016 and 2020 and funded by the European Union, under the EU4Energy Initiative. It targeted policymakers working in the energy sector of Eastern Partner countries to help them strengthen their legislative and regulatory frameworks as well as identify investment opportunities in key energy infrastructure projects. The project supported the preparation and adoption of energy efficiency, electricity and market, gas markets, renewable energy, oil stocks, infrastructure and energy-related environmental legislation.

Benefits

A well-functioning energy sector needs clear rules and regulations that ensure both competition and legal certainty. With such rules and regulations in place, consumers such as households, businesses and industry can expect the following benefits:
  • Lower energy bills
  • Improved reliability and security of energy supply
  • Improved quality of service
  • Reduced environmental damage
  • Reduced energy poverty
