First greenhouse gas (GHG) emission permits were issued by Republic of Serbia
The Republic of Serbia has recently issued its first greenhouse gas emissions permits for plants operators, which is a significant step in the implementation of the Monitoring, Reporting, Verification and Accreditation (MRVA) system for greenhouse gas emissions.
The permits contain detailed requirements for monitoring and reporting of data needed for accurate calculations of emissions from combustion of fuels for energy purposes and from industrial processes. The authorisation process has been entirely implemented through the use of modern IT tools, which has made document processing faster and more efficient.
The transposition and implementation of elements of the EU ETS Directive and the Monitoring and Reporting Regulation (MRR) and the Accreditation and Verification Regulation (AVR) is the obligation of all Energy Community Contracting Parties as a part of Energy Community Decarbonisation Roadmap. The Energy Community Secretariat will continue to provide support to Energy Community Contracting Parties in this task.
The implementation of emission monitoring and reporting requirements consistent with EU standards is also important for the functioning of the CBAM mechanism, as it facilitates the collection of the necessary information for the submission of reports by CBAM-covered exporters.
