Secretariat welcomes the increased electricity export capacity from Continental Europe to Ukraine and Moldova
The Energy Community Secretariat welcomes the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity (ENTSO-E)’s recent decision to boost electricity export capacity to Ukraine and Moldova to 2,100 MW for the coming winter. This step marks a crucial advancement in fortifying the electricity supply to Ukraine and Moldova with enhanced energy security as winter approaches.
To make the best use of increased available import capacity and secure higher electricity imports from Continental Europe to Ukraine and Moldova during the upcoming winter, several national, regional, and EU-wide measures have been recommended by the Energy Community Secretariat in its recently published Energy Market Observatory report. These recommendations on maximizing electricity imports complement the ongoing efforts to rebuild and expand generation capacities in Ukraine supported by the Ukraine Energy Support Fund.
The Director of the Energy Community Secretariat, Artur Lorkowski, stated, "This expansion in export capacity underscores the power of collective action in safeguarding electricity supply to Ukraine and Moldova during winter. We are committed to supporting Ukraine and Moldova in removing regulatory and fiscal barriers in the electricity markets and its further integration into the European single market in line with the Electricity Integration Package."
The Secretariat will continue to collaborate closely with ENTSO-E and other partners, ensuring a seamless flow of support and reinforcing the resilience of the entire Energy Community.
