UK Contributes £20 Million to UESF to Aid Infrastructure Repairs and Winter Preparedness in Ukraine
The UK Government has contributed £20 million to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund (UESF), an efficient pooled channel for international donations for repairing and upgrading Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.
These funds are allocated to Ukrzaliznytsia, the state-owned railway company, for a decentralised power generation project; and to Ukrenergo, the transmission system operator, for repairs to high-voltage switch gear and transmission equipment. A third tranche will fund protective structures for critical energy infrastructure.
Administered by the Energy Community Secretariat in cooperation with Ukraine’s Ministry of Energy, the UESF has attracted €758 million from over 16 international donors. While the Fund has made rapid progress in refurbishing and installing key priority capacities for winter, further contributions are urgently needed to sustain recovery efforts.
