Germany has given an additional grant of €80 million to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund, raising its total contribution to €299.6 million. As the most effective financial instrument for funding the urgent repair of Ukraine's damaged energy infrastructure, contributions to the Fund are vital.

The grant, provided by the Federal Foreign Office, will be immediately disbursed to finance decentralised generation equipment and repairs, supporting Ukraine through the challenging winter months following relentless Russian attacks.

With winter posing a significant challenge, continued contributions to the Fund are more urgent than ever.

"We thank Germany for its commitment. It sets a strong example, highlighting the importance of solidarity and international collaboration in maintaining Ukraine's energy stability during the critical winter months," says Artur Lorkowski, Director of the Energy Community Secretariat.

In 2024 alone, Ukraine has suffered a loss of more than 9 GW of installed generation capacity due to Russian attacks. This has resulted in millions of Ukrainians experiencing frequent rolling blackouts and unplanned power outages.

The start of the heating season in Ukraine is 15 October. As winter approaches, these vulnerabilities will be exacerbated, forcing more people to flee affected regions - whether relocating within Ukraine or seeking refuge abroad.
