The Energy Community Secretariat welcomes Lithuania’s Ignitis Group’s €4 million donation to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund (UESF). As Ukraine faces continued attacks on its energy infrastructure, such support is crucial in ensuring the resilience of the country's energy sector during the cold season.

This humanitarian contribution will be used to increase the capacity of one of Ukraine's power plants by additional 120 MW.  It can meet the supply demand of about twice as many households as the number of households in Vilnius, which is about 420,000," says Darius Maikštėnas, CEO of Ignitis Group.

The Fund, supported by contributions from governments, international organisations, and corporate donors, plays a crucial role in providing immediate assistance to repair critical energy infrastructure. This latest donation not only bolsters Ukraine's energy system but also exemplifies European solidarity in the face of ongoing conflict, ensuring a united response to the country’s urgent needs.

The Fund is the fastest way to address urgent energy needs, keeping the lights on and uniting nations in solidarity. Donors provide more than aid—they deliver hope and resilience to a nation at war, “ emphasises Artur Lorkowski, Director of the Energy Community Secretariat, urging continued collective efforts to support Ukraine's energy system in these critical times.

The Ukraine Energy Support Fund is managed by the Energy Community Secretariat in coordination with the European Commission and implemented in close cooperation with the USAID finance ESP and the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine.

The allocation of the Ignitis Group’s funds was formally approved on 7 October following the signing of an agreement between Ignitis Group and the Energy Community Secretariat.
