Moldova will launch its first large-scale renewable energy tenders

2 August 2024

Earlier this month, Moldova announced its readiness to launch soon its first large-scale renewable energy tenders, demonstrating its commitment to renewable electricity generation and the integration of its energy market with that of the EU.

The announcement came during the hybrid conference “Energy Transition: Launching the First Renewables Tenders for Large Capacities in the Republic of Moldova,” organized by the Ministry of Energy of Moldova and the Energy Community Secretariat.

The event, part of the EU4Energy Governance initiative managed by the Secretariat and funded by the European Union, aims to support Moldova, Georgia, and Ukraine in their clean energy transitions and enhance energy security. This initiative is particularly vital for mitigating the impact of the war in Ukraine by facilitating energy access.

The conference highlighted the current legal framework and opportunities for renewable energy in Moldova, including detailed presentations on wind and solar PV tender documentation. Discussions also addressed the challenges and success factors for wind tenders in Europe.

Key topics included the necessity of strong public-private partnerships, the importance of international support and investment, and the role of regulatory frameworks in advancing renewable energy projects.

Key-speakers at the conference included Victor Parlicov, Moldova's Minister of Energy, Yolanda Garcia Mezquita from the Directorate General for Energy of the European Commission, Jānis Mažeiks, Ambassador and Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova, and Dirk Buschle, Deputy Director of the Energy Community Secretariat.
