The Secretariat welcomes Kosovo*'s first solar auction
The Energy Community Secretariat welcomes Kosovo*'s announcement of its first solar auction on May 12, 2023, representing a significant stride towards the country's renewable energy objectives. The Ministry of Economy has initiated the "Competitive Process for the Guaranteed Purchase Price of Energy Produced by a 100 MW Photovoltaic (PV) Solar Plant, to be Constructed on Public Land."
Situated in the cadastral area of Kramovik and Petkoviq within the Municipality of Rahovec, the proposed photovoltaic solar plant will grant the selected bidder a lease for a minimum duration of 30 years to operate the facility. The energy purchase agreement ensures mandatory acquisition of the electricity generated for 15 years via the market operator.
Dirck Buschle, Deputy Director of the Energy Community Secretariat, expressed enthusiasm for Kosovo's efforts in the renewable energy sector, stating, "Kosovo*'s first solar auction is a significant milestone in the country's journey towards sustainable energy development. This initiative aligns with the objectives of the Energy Community to promote clean and resilient energy sources. We commend Kosovo's commitment and look forward to the successful implementation of this project, which will contribute to the diversification of Kosovo*'s energy mix."
The Energy Community Secretariat encourages the participation of both local and international companies in the auction, recognizing its potential to generate investment opportunities and foster the expansion of Kosovo*'s renewable energy sector. The Secretariat remains committed to assisting Kosovo in its transition to a sustainable and low-carbon energy.
