Serbia reports progress in draft National Energy and Climate Plan and Renewable Energy Law revision
As part of a country mission to Serbia, Director Lorkowski discussed today the state of energy market reforms and plans for decarbonization with the Minister of Mining and Energy, Ms. Dubravka Djedović, and other key stakeholders on 24 March 2023. The discussions focused on the transposition of the new electricity package, developments in the process of preparation of National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP) and progress in facilitating security of gas supply.
During the discussions, Director Lorkowski recapped: “Serbia is advancing on its path towards net-zero economy. I am pleased to hear about the drafted amendments to the Law on the Use of Renewable Energy Sources, paving the way for first auctions and boosting the deployment of renewables. The Secretariat moreover welcomes the soon finalization of the draft NECP and repeats its offer to assist Serbia in designing and implementing the plan.”
Mr. Lorkowski also took part in the meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on Economy, Regional Development, Trade, Tourism and Energy, where he presented the key findings of the Secretariat’s Annual Implementation Report in relation to Serbia.
Minister Djedović stated "The National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP) is the key document for determining the dynamics and key steps in the process of energy transition in Serbia and to ensure harmonization of our targets in increasing electricity production from RES, improving energy efficiency and reduction of GHG emissions. We want to be ambitious but realistic in setting our goals. The public discussion and consultations with the Energy Community on NECP should help us draft the document of highest quality". She added, "We expect that the Parliament will soon adopt the amendments to the Law on the Use of Renewable Energy Sources. The amendments will allow us to increase capacities from RES while maintaining the security of energy supply, which is of great importance for sustainable energy transition".
The Director was accompanied by Deputy Director Dirk Buschle and Country Desk Officer Branislava Marsenic.
