The Secretariat supports renewables in Kosovo
During a mission to Kosovo* Director Lorkowski and Deputy Director Buschle discussed energy market reform needs with the Minister of Economy, Artane Rizvanolli, the Assembly Committee on Economy, Industry, Entrepreneurship and Trade, the Energy Regulatory Office ERO and the electricity TSO KOSTT.
In the meetings, Director Lorkowski commended Kosovo* for its ambitions in increasing the share of renewable energy and underlined the importance of adopting the draft Law on Renewables prepared with the support of the Secretariat. He encouraged ERO to swiftly implement a register for guarantees of origin by joining the regional IT platform offered for that purpose. The Director also addressed the obstacles to electricity trade by maintaining seat requirements, and offered the Secretariat’s support in transposing the electricity integration package adopted by the Ministerial Council in December 2022. He emphasized the need to find adequate solutions for avoiding further deviations by KOSTT: “The TSO should have the financial means for purchasing balancing electricity on the market rather than paying the highest possible price for its imbalances. It should also be allowed to apply all available balancing measures, as other European operators do”.
Country Desk Officer Olena Antonova joined the mission.
