Energy Community Secretariat introduces Ukraine Energy Market Observatory
On February 15, 2023 Energy Community Secretariat held an online event introducing the Ukraine Energy Market Observatory. The meeting was co-chaired by Director Lorkowski, Mechthild Wörsdörfer, the Deputy Director General for the European Commission Directoral General for Energy (DG ENER) and Konstantyn Uschapovskiy, the Chairman of the National Commission for State Regulation in the Spheres of Energy and Communal Services of Ukraine (NEURC).
The initiative is aimed at building trust in the Ukrainian institutions and a predictable and transparent governance of the energy markets in line with Energy Community acquis. Ukraine Energy Market Observatory shall focus on supporting Ukraine in its efforts to stay on the path of energy markets reform and to advance the market integration into the European internal market, while recognising the need for immediate short term measures called by the war.
Mechthild Wörsdörfer stressed the importance of Ukraine Energy Market Observatory, inter alia, in terms of performance of measures envisaged by the Road Map for further markets integration of High-Level Working Group on Energy Markets between the EU Commission and Ukraine and future efforts of EU in rebuild of Ukraine’s energy sector.
Ukraine Energy Market Observatory is also a tool to further strengthen cooperation with NEURC – the key actor responsible for setting the rules of the electricity market in a transparent manner and in compliance with Energy Community Acquis on Ukraine’s path towards EU membership.
