Secretariat deeply saddened by death of Dr Erhard Busek, a staunch advocate of regional energy cooperation
The Secretariat is deeply saddened by the death of Dr Erhard Busek, former Vice-Chancellor of Austria and Special Coordinator of the Stability Pact for South East Europe from 2002 - 2008. We offer our deepest condolences to his family.
Dr Busek played a leading role in the events that led to the creation of the Energy Community. He was a strong believer and staunch advocate of the necessity to create a community based on energy to ensure the long-term security and stability of the region.
The Stability Pact for South East Europe was established in 1999 as the main instrument to promote regional cooperation and coordinate international assistance in the Balkans. The Stability Pact launched the Athens Process in 2002, which led to the signature of the Energy Community Treaty in 2005.
