Secretariat welcomes decision of Romanian regulatory authority to apply gas network codes on cross-border interconnection points with Energy Community Contracting Parties

8 February 2021

The energy regulatory authority of Romania, ANRE, adopted last week a decision that rules on the applicability of gas network codes on gas cross-border interconnection points between Romania and the Energy Community Contracting Parties. Specifically, this relates to the gas interconnection points of Romania to Moldova and Ukraine. The Romanian regulator made the applicability of the gas network codes subject to the codes being applicable first by Moldova and Ukraine on individual interconnection points.

ANRE is the first regulatory authority from an EU Member State to formally take upon itself the obligation to include interconnectors with Energy Community countries in the scope of the gas network codes. Others have done so on a voluntary basis, and the regulatory authority of Slovakia not at all.
