First cross-border capacity auctions for Kosovo*
As of today, 14 December 2020, the Connection Agreement between KOSTT and transmission system operators (TSOs) from Continental Europe entered into force marking the first day of operation of KOSTT as a control area within the joint control block with Albanian TSO, OST. In addition, the new 400kV line between Kosovo* and Albania is now in operation contributing to further cross-border exchanges.
Cross-border capacities will be allocated on short term basis until the end of 2020 as per arrangements between KOSTT and neighbouring TSOs.
Tomorrow will mark the launch of the first-ever yearly auctions for electricity transmission capacity on Kosovo*’s borders with Albania, Montenegro and North Macedonia for 2021 by the Coordinated Auction Office in South East Europe (SEE CAO). No cross-border capacity is currently made available for commercial use on the interconnection between KOSTT and Serbian TSO, EMS.
Director Kopač said: “Following more than twelve years of dedicated efforts by the Secretariat, we are pleased to finally witness the start of electricity auctions on KOSTT’s borders. This is a significant step forward in terms of integrating the electricity market of Kosovo* into the wider region”.
