Energy Community regulators Contact Group helps ensuring stable energy supply during Covid-19 crisis
Today’s first virtual meeting of a new Energy Community regulatory authorities’ Contact Group was dedicated to measures taken by regulators to balance consumer protection against safeguarding liquidity of energy companies during the COVID-19 crisis.
Experts from seven participating Contracting Party regulators exchanged on measures taken by individual authorities to mitigate the vulnerability of end-users, keeping security of energy supply stable, providing a transparent information system, identifying solutions for payment and metering during the lockdown and at the same time not putting the liquidity of energy companies at unnecessary risk. The regulators agreed to publish an overview of the key regulatory responses to the current energy system challenges that the Contracting Parties are facing in the COVID-19 crisis. Once finalized, the overview will be published on the Energy Community website.
The Secretariat steered the discussions and briefed the participants on outcomes of talks with donors, energy suppliers and distribution system operators on the financial stability of energy companies and possible remedies.
