Energy Community Parliamentary Plenum tackles Market Integration and Energy Poverty
Today, the Energy Community Parliamentary Plenum (ECPP) convened in Brussels, bringing together Members of the European Parliament’s Committee on Industry, Research, and Energy (ITRE), along with parliamentarians from Energy Community Contracting Parties, to address key issues surrounding Europe’s energy future.
Key discussion included the accelerated integration with the EU and Energy Poverty. Artur Lorkowski, Director of the Energy Community Secretariat, highlighted the opportunity for EU accession through energy integration:
“The energy market integration of our region with the EU market is basically an offer to join the EU single market for electricity now. It’s up to the Contracting Parties to take up that offer.”
The ECPP provides a platform for parliamentarians to engage directly in shaping Europe’s energy future and deepen cooperation between the EU and its neighbours.
The meeting was co-chaired by Borys Budka, Chair, Committee on Industry, Research and Energy, European Parliament, Ms. Marina Pendeš, Deputy Chair of the Committee on Foreign and Trade Policy, Customs, Transport and Communications of the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina, with the participation of the European Commission represented by the Mechtild Wörsdörf, Deputy Director General at DG ENER.
