On 15 July, Energy Community experts and representatives of the Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure of Moldova met in Chisinau to set in motion technical assistance to support the Moldovan Government in preparing a strategy and roadmap for mobilizing investments to renovate and upgrade existing buildings, so they are more energy efficient. The strategy will describe the policies and measures required for the renovation of the national stock of residential and commercial buildings, both public and private for the period 2019-2030, aligned with Directive 2012/27/EU on energy efficiency and Law no 139/2018.
The strategy will put in motion the financing measures to renovate existing buildings so they are more energy efficient. It will also provide a clear picture of the current breakdown of the building stock in the country in order to provide an evidence-based estimate of expected energy savings and wider benefits, including economic, societal and environmental benefits.
* The EU4Energy Initiative covers all EU support to improve energy supply, security and connectivity, as well as to promote energy efficiency and the use of renewables in the Eastern Partner countries Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine. It does this by financing projects and programmes that help to reform energy markets and to reduce national energy dependence and consumption. Over the longer term, this makes energy supply more reliable, transparent and affordable, thus reducing energy poverty and energy bills for both citizens and the private sector.
