Secretariat's Ukraine Support Task Force facilitates Equinor's 2000 ton methanol donation to Ukrgasvydobuvannya
The Energy Community Secretariat is pleased to announce the successful delivery of a substantial donation of 2,000 tons of methanol from Equinor, a leading Norwegian energy company, to Ukrgasvydobuvannya JSC, a subsidiary of Naftogaz Group, through its Ukraine Support Task Force. Methanol, a critical raw material for natural gas production, treatment, and transportation, was efficiently delivered to Ukraine with valuable support from the European Commission's Emergency Response Coordination Center (ERCC) through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism.
"We are delighted to witness the tangible results of our collaborative efforts as Equinor generously donates 2,000 tons of methanol to support gas production in Ukraine. This partnership exemplifies the power of international cooperation in addressing energy challenges and reinforces our commitment to ensuring energy stability in the region. We remain dedicated to supporting Ukraine's energy sector, working towards sustainable development and resilience in the region."- Artur Lorkowski, Director of the Energy Community Secretariat emphasized.
The Energy Community, in close partnership with the ERCC, played a pivotal role in facilitating the seamless delivery of Equinor's methanol donation. Leveraging the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, this collaborative effort demonstrates the power of international cooperation in addressing energy challenges and ensuring the resilience and growth of Ukraine's energy sector.
“We are sincerely grateful to our Norwegian partners for choosing to support gas production in Ukraine at this difficult time. We look forward to further deepening of cooperation to ensure energy stability of Europe," commented Oleg Tolmachev, Acting CEO of Ukrgasvydobuvannya.
Furthermore, it was previously announced that Ukrgasvydobuvannya would also receive 6,000 tons of methanol from USAID. This 2,000-ton batch delivery from Europe to Ukrgasvydobuvannya marks a significant milestone as the first-ever rail delivery of methanol from Europe in the history of UGV, highlighting the continuous progress and innovative solutions being pursued in Ukraine's energy industry.
The Ukraine Support Task Force (USTF) is an initiative by the Energy Community Secretariat that facilitates partnerships, assistance, and coordination to support the sustainable development and energy stability of Ukraine. It works closely with donor companies, Ukrainian authorities, and the European Commission's Emergency Response Coordination Centre (ERCC) to manage the donation process, coordinate logistics, and ensure the delivery of resources and equipment to Ukraine's energy sector.
